I have found the best way to photograph children is to allow them to play. Getting a preschooler to pose for an hour is very nearly impossible. By asking the family to play and interact with each other it is a much more fun experience for everyone.
I am grateful that they allowed me to capture these moments. I am still rebuilding an relaunching my business so this session was a welcomed opportunity to refresh my child photographing skills.
5 Tips for Photographing Kids
1) Photograph them as they are. Don't try to force the smile. Let them be goofy and silly. Let their personality shine through.
2) Don't tire them out! A tired kid is a cranky kid. A cranky kid is not having fun and neither is anyone else.
3) Get down on their level. Physically squat down. Make eye contact. Engage with the kid.
4) Don't put the camera down! Be ready for those candid moments! Kids move quick, you never know when they are about to give you that perfect shot!
5) Be patient and focus on having fun!
